Generation of Terawatt Attosecond Pulses from Relativistic Transition Radiation

نویسندگان

چکیده

When a femtosecond duration and hundreds of kiloampere peak current electron beam traverses the vacuum high-density plasma interface, new process, that we call relativistic transition radiation (RTR), generates an intense $\ensuremath{\sim}100$ as pulse containing $\ensuremath{\sim}1$ terawatt power coherent ultraviolet (VUV) accompanied by several smaller satellite pulses. This inherits radial polarization incident field has ring intensity distribution. RTR is emitted when density comparable to spot size much larger than skin depth. Physically, it arises from return or backward motion electrons starting just inside Doppler up shifts photons. The number pulses determined groups originate at different depths within first wake period emit coherently before phase mixing.

Using the relativistic two-stream instability for the generation of soft-x-ray attosecond radiation pulses.

In this Letter we discuss a novel method for generating ultrashort radiation pulses using a broadband two-stream instability in an intense relativistic electron beam. This method relies on an electron beam having two distinct two-energy bands. The use of this new high brightness electron beam scenario, in combination with ultrashort soft x-ray pulses from high harmonic generation in gas, allows...

Intense circularly polarized attosecond pulse generation from relativistic laser plasmas using few-cycle laser pulses.

We have investigated the polarization of attosecond light pulses generated from relativistic few-cycle laser pulse interaction with the surface of overdense plasmas using particle-in-cell simulation. Under suitable conditions, a desired polarization state of the generated attosecond pulse can be achieved by controlling the polarization of the incident laser. In particular, an elliptically polar...

Attosecond electron sheets and attosecond light pulses from relativistic laser wakefields in underdense plasmas

A method for producing dense attosecond electron sheets (tens nanometers thick corresponding to attosecond duration) and single intense attosecond light pulse is reported based on relativistic laser wakefields in underdense plasmas. By making use of gas targets this method allows for high repetition rates required for applications.

Attosecond pulses measured from the attosecond lighthouse

The attosecond lighthouse is a method of using ultrafast wavefront rotation with high-harmonic generation to create a series of coherent, spatially separated attosecond pulses. Previously, temporal measurements by photoelectron streaking characterized isolated attosecond pulses created by manipulating the single-atom response1–4. The attosecond lighthouse, in contrast, generates a series of pul...

Modeling generation and characterization of attosecond pulses

Generation of high-order harmonics has emerged as a powerful technique for the generation of broadband coherent radiation in the EUV regime. This has lead to the development of table-top EUV sources that can produce attosecond pulses. These pulses can serve as a probe to resolve atomic attosecond dynamics and image atomic orbitals and molecular motion. Due to high spatial and temporal coherence...
